NYC BMX: where bikes are allowed
The most common NYC BMX question isn't where the best park is. It's where you're allowed to ride without getting kicked out. NYC Parks posts rules for each park, and they differ.
Rules here come from NYC Parks listings. Signs at the park win if they differ. Hours, closures and rules change, so check the linked official page on the day you go.
Parks that list BMX as allowed
River Avenue Skate Park
E 157th St & River Ave, Bronx, NY 10451
A 10,000 sq ft plaza. NYC Parks lists it as open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. with BMX allowed.
Thomas Jefferson Park Skate Park
E 114th St & FDR Dr, New York, NY 10029
Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. BMX, scooters and inline skates are allowed, per NYC Parks.
Parks where bikes are not allowed
| Park | Rule (per NYC Parks) |
|---|---|
| LES Skatepark (Coleman Playground) | No bikes. Inline skates allowed. |
| McCarren Skate Park, Brooklyn | Skateboards only. |
For the other parks, including Hudson River Park's Pier 62 and Pier 25 (listed as open to skateboarders and rollerbladers), check the posted rules before you bring a bike. Our NYC skateparks guide has locations and hours.
Tips
- Pegs and plastic: be kind to ledges in shared parks. Skaters will notice.
- Peak hours are mixed. Ride the flow and call your line.
