Mt. Hood: snowboarding in summer
Oregon's Mt. Hood is famous for one thing above all: lift-served snowboarding in summer at Timberline. In winter, Mt. Hood Meadows, also on the mountain, runs a Superpipe and parks under lights.
Timberline's summer season depends on the snowpack and ends when the snow runs out. Park layouts, lifts, hours and ticket rules change through the season (and with the snow), so check the linked official page on the day you go.
Timberline: the summer scene
Timberline Lodge & the Palmer Snowfield
27500 E Timberline Rd, Government Camp, OR 97028
Timberline runs lift-served summer skiing and snowboarding on the Palmer Snowfield, generally from June through August. The Palmer chairlift opened in 1978, and race teams, freestyle camps and pros have trained here ever since. Camps reserve lanes, but Timberline keeps areas open to the public for intermediate and advanced riders.
The summer 2026 season has ended; the next chance is winter.
Summer parks
| Park | What Timberline says | Ticket |
|---|---|---|
| Mile Canyon Park | June: halfpipe, jumps, rails and jibs | Regular day ticket or season pass |
| Lap Park (on Palmer) | From July: jumps, hips and rails, while the snow lasts | Regular day ticket or season pass |
| Freestyle Training Center (FTC) | Jumps, rails, jibs, a 30'×60' airbag, lift and tow access | Separate daily ticket |
Summer camps
Timberline's official summer freestyle camp is open to skiers and snowboarders, with overnight camp for ages 8 to 17. Snowboarders need to link heel and toe turns consistently on blue terrain to join.

Tips
- Summer sun is serious. At altitude on snow you get sunburned fast. Use sunscreen and goggles or sunglasses even if it's warm.
- Summer snow is variable. It's firm in the morning and slush by afternoon. Most people ride early.
- Skate after. Portland's skateparks are an easy add-on to a Hood trip.
Park etiquette (applies everywhere)
- Orange ovals mean freestyle terrain. Resorts like Mammoth and Big Bear mark terrain parks with an orange oval. Read the signs at the entrance before you drop in.
- Scope first, then hit. Ride your first lap past the features, not over them. Look at the takeoff and the landing.
- One rider per feature. Call your drop, wait your turn and clear the landing fast.
- Start small. Every resort here has a beginner or progression zone. Work up from there.
- Helmet. Some parks require one; wear one in all of them.
